Night Races

Being a working man with a wife and three kids, it's not always easy to get the hall pass for the Saturday MTB races. Saturdays are usually full of family events such as recitals, games, etc. Which got me thinking. You know what would be cool? If the ICUP guys added some night races to the schedule for 2011.

A Draper/Corner Canyon night MTB race would be the perfect venue. Especially when it's 100 degrees outside in the summer.

Kids are in bed, no pressure to get back at any specific time. I'm just saying.....Who's with me?

How about we save the $40 and organize them ourselves? Open division only. Just name the trails everyone has to ride. First guy across the line gets Village Inn courtesy of last guy across the line. We could even post times on a website if we wanted to feel official.

I am in. I agree with Mark. Have Salt Cycling organize it like the Helloween ride. Have it alternate between Draper and Orem every other week. Maybe even make a venture down for some south county stuff.

I could see a repetitive theme developing with the first/last scenario: same guy always buys for the same guy.

And as long as I'm not the buyer, I'm for it!

I like it. I'd be up for it.

I have always wanted to start lunch races. everyone put $5 in a milkjug and whoever gets to it first gets the money. Whoever wins gets handicapped the amount of time between them and 3rd place so you dont always have some "ringer" show up and take all you money.

I like the milkjug idea........ $5 vs. $35 ICUP entry fee. Who is going to build the podiums?

Buy diner for the last place guy (aka cougar bait).

I thought the Helloween format was cool. $1 entry fee. First one gets the cash (although that was just for the climb).

Maybe we can set up a dirt bag night ride race and make it a $1 entry, winner gets the cash.

I'm with you. Geez. It might be the only race I can go to besides Leadville and LOTOJA.

I think 2 dry canyon loops would be the perfect long course option. Or one loop plus Betty to Ireland. Or a RAPR?. Or...Yes we definitely need to alternate as SCC recommends!

What if there was a $5 entry, then the payout could go deeper than just one person? I like the handicap idea too. Winner gets the time gap to 2nd added to his next race. Or if everyone showed up on single speeds mandate a lower gear ratio for the winner!

I'm in if there is a category for slightly overweight and kinda slow riders with really no technical downhilling skills.

I like where your head is at Rick. I am in.

I like the idea. I think the winner should use his winnings to buy for the last place guy.

Uh, don't we already have night races everytime we ride at night ... or is it just me?
