Before I die, I want to learn how to:
1) Ride a wheelie for more than 3 sec
2) Bunny hop a barrier during a CX race
It's ridiculous that as much time as I spend on a bike, I haven't learned how to master either of these tricks.
I know, I know, I've set the bar pretty high in life. Thanks for noticing.

I have the same desire to learn to "manual" or ride a wheelie. I can bunnyhop, but not sure I could do one uphill, and on a CX bike like in the video, that's impressive!
As for the wheelie, I think a grassy field and some flat pedals might be wise.
Yeah, with the wheelie thing, I'd add the qualifier "without falling over backwards." Jamie's spot on with the grassy field and flat pedals part.
A year or so ago I was riding my cross bike on the grass at the school next door and I thought I would show my son how his cool dad could wheelie (or "manual", which sounds cooler, but is less commonly understood). A half a second later I was laying on my back still clipped into my pedals with my bike in the air. Way cool!
Blake set up a barrier in his front yard early on emorning pre race last cx season, the sole purpose was to practice bunny hopping for the A race, one crash/er/surgery/off the bike longer than your current stint later, I'll run/walk the barriers.
4 years ago or so, Ali 'socks' Goulet had about a 20% Bunny Hop success rate, maybe less, but dammit he tried every time, resulting in some very spectator friendly crashes, so go ahead......
forget the barrier thing, there are like 5 guys in utah that can do that.
but every shop rat can wheelie (i hate the word "manual" here--sounds like a hand job) all @#!*% day.
i just want to wheelie for said 3 seconds.
Aren't "wheelies" and "manuals" two different things? With a wheelie, I think you pedal up into the wheelie position, while with a manual you assume the wheelie position without pedaling and at speed (by pulling up on the bars and shifting your body weight back).
How about we bring back the pre-ride derby but make it wheelie practice?
The internet to the rescue. I just need to adjust my angel.

The wheelie is mostly for my kids. If I don't win the race (which is the norm), a well timed wheelie will leave them impressed.
The bunny hop is just bad ass. But Bob brings up a good point. If I can break my hip while just climbing, I can't imagine the damage I could do from a botched bunny hop.
Maybe I'll wait for the bikes to get 5 lbs lighter before I attempt the bunny. So like, Oct of 2011.
Dug- 3 seconds is all you need cuz you're so intense.
A full suspension cross bike with 5" of travel should make hopping those barriers easier.
Does dug have w-face for those 3 seconds?
