But it looks way too fun to pass up. This video captures some of what I'm talking about.
US Gran Prix of Cyclocross - Portland, Oregon from Jesse Rosten on Vimeo.
My bike is a SS with a 36x16 gearing. I'm not sure if that is too easy or too hard of a gear but I'm sure I'll find out within 3 min of the first race.
I got my bike dirty today during lunch. What a trip riding a road bike on dirt. It was a cool feeling and has given me a needed shot of renewed excitement for cycling.

Where did you ride? My CX bike needs some serious work before it's ready to race again, but I may show up to a few CX races with my Superfly this year. We should get together sometime next week and practice a few dismounts. On the other hand, it was pretty memorable for me to try my first dismount ever during my first CX race at RMR a few years back. No better way to learn than trial by fire, right?
aaron- get you cx bike out, dust it off and come meet me.
i rode the jeep road above the race course from my office, down to provo canyon.
Ha! I'd love to watch you two "practice a few dismounts". I'll shoot video to share with your wives.
sorry, that was inappropriate.
Nice! Your gonna dig it...
dave- It's okay. I know you couldn't help yourself.
its gonna be sweet
Sweet, one more guy in the SS class. FWIW, I found 42x17 was a pretty good ratio for me for most of the courses. That is tough gear for slow corners and any climbs, but helps me keep up on the flats.
JZ- Thanks for the input. I'm thinking a 38x16 might be good for me.
Uh oh... Are you sure you want to awaken this beast?
Was that a slow-mo shot of Mitchell Peterson's face in the video?
I like my caveman speak: "That is tough gear for slow corners . . ." Oh well, you get the idea.
