Greasers and Socs

I usually ride with 2 different groups. The core group (Greasers) are all about camping, dirty bikes, no gears, and brats over a fire. The other group (Socs) are all about nice hotels or rental homes, clean-well tuned bikes, and sit down restaurants.

Both groups have hard core, fast riders, and people I really like hanging out with but they are totally different. I have elements of both groups and can usually adapt quickly to either of them. For example, I generally prefer to go cheap, camp and eat brats but can appreciate things like having access to a shower after a ride. I also try to keep my bikes clean and well maintained.

Every now and then, the two groups will meet for a joint ride and I feel a lot like Costanza in Sienfeld. My two Worlds collide and I get all stressed and confused.

The best is when the two groups go to Moab together. Then the dirtbags who slept on the ground can get free showers and pool access from the guys who paid for rooms and maybe even eat the free continental breakfast at their hotel.

Not that I have any experience doing this, I'm just saying it would be a good idea if someone tried it.

I'd say that driving 10+ hours to ride with your homies for the weekend in beautiful Palm Desert, CA, while the rest of us fly the 1hour and 20 minutes, qualifies you as someone who saunters.

Could you give us the meaning behind "Socs" so I'll know whether to take offense or not? Thanks Or maybe I'm just better off not knowing......
