More Skiing, Less Biking

This is the peak (Box Elder) that I look at every morning when I eat breakfast in my kitchen. I've tried 3 times to ski off the summit and all 3 attempts resulted in turning back early. You can see from the pic that there are so many different routes to ski. A very cool mountain.

It's also home to the Uterus Chute made famous by Dug (look far left in this pic).

It's finally snowing here in SLC and my mind is shifting to winter. Backcountry mixed with spin for the next 3-4 months.

I am excited to get some snowshoeing in. I love hiking around in the deep snow. So quiet and fun to see the trails in a different setting.

I got some snowshoes last year and look forward to using them more this year. But so far...

The last time I was on snowshoes I got a horse hoof stuck in them and ended up getting dragged around a pasture. It hurt! Now both horses and snowshoes scare me.

This winter will be the year that Box Elder gets ticked off the list. That thing's been staring you down long enough. Beautiful lines coming off of that summit.

Do you go up the back side of Box Elder? Two years ago I started at Tibble Fork reservoir and XC skied up past Granite Flat campground and up Deer Creek to the bowl behind (east of) Box Elder Peak. I could see that other BC skiers had traversed up and around the bowl to gain the peak.

KK- yes, we've gone both ways. From Tibble Fork (like you describe) and also from Dry in Alpine. It's hard to tell which way is the quickest. They are both very long approaches to the actual base of the climb.

Mark- this is the year and you are coming along.

VH1- add this one to your points competition.
