Back in 88, I used to....

Good times.  SLC had a cool hardcore scene when I was in high school.  I used to love going to the shows.  Two of my favorites were The Stench and Bad Yodelers.  I heard the Stench had reunited for a show in 2007.  Still waiting for the Bad Yodelers to get back together for one more show.  I know the bass player really well.  Some would say we are like brothers.

Holy crap dude, I think we may have been separated at birth. I used to go to DV8 and other all-ages venues to see a lot of those bands. Bad Yodelers were great, and my personal fav's were Waterfront and Iceburn. Brings back memories of one of my favorite shows featuring Iceburn and Inside Out (Zack de la Rocha's band before Rage). Good times indeed.

Aaron- That's crazy. How have we not talked about this before???

Speedway and the Word were also great.

During that same time I was sporting long shoulder length hair and going to Grateful Dead shows. Fun to look back on past experiences.

And when it happens, I too, will be there.

Rick I never knew. I saw tons of shows including the Massacre guys, maimed for life, etc., Went to Raunch on a weekly basis. I still have a Stench E.P. with a great version of Sweet Home Alabama. I saw The Bad Yodelers last show with Corrosion of Conformity.

Jeff- We need to ride together more. I have a feeling I'd like your playlist.

The "X" on the 29 & Single jersey was taken from the old SLC straight edge scene.

Okay, this topic will get me to post a comment. It sounds like we need to form a cycling club for hardcore music lovers.

Rick, I used to go to shows with your brother Rob (and probably met you in the process) and others - Paul Iba, Alma Allen (I think), Andy Cvar, etc. At that time one of my best friends was Jeremy Chatelain of local fame. I have seen the Stench and the Bad Yodelers numerous times. I have always intended on introducing myself to you at races and stuff being a fellow Racer's Cycle Service guy. Definitely brings back the memories. I am currently listening to my Pandora Fugazi station (which is playing the Misfits). Good times. Say hi to Rob for me.

Joel- I've seen your name on the local race results and remember your name from way back when at some of the shows. I've also noticed that Brent Peacock from the Yodelers is a hard core mtb racer up in Jackson.

I agree, it's time to bring back the punk/hardcore roots to cycling.

We need to plan some time to ride together.

Definitely. I was contemplating doing the New Years Day squaw peak ride, but I am nursing a broken rib from a cyclocross crash.

Aaron, last time I talked to Jeremy Chatelain (one of many former members of Iceburn) he said they were planning an Iceburn reunion show. I don't know if it ever happened.

Joel, I think I remember my brother saying something about an Iceburn show, but I'm not sure what came of it. Let me know if you hear anything else.

I didn't know any of the band members personally, but I certainly remember watching Gentry's every move on stage, and I've been listening to Jeremy's new band called Cub Country. Certainly a whole new direction from Iceburn, but very cool.

I really enjoy Cub Country. Definitely different for Jeremy, but great stuff.

Do you guys remember Brad Collins from Raunch Records? I ran into him working at the Gart Sports Castle (or whatever it is called now). Still the super nice guy he always was. Somewhere I still have an old Raunch Records t-shirt.

wow- some of these names I haven't heard in a while. We used to take the bus downtown and then ride our skateboards to Raunch.

I don't really know how I stumbled upon this blog but I'm glad I did. The memories! I was also at the last Bad Yodelers show with C.O.C. Wasn't it in a movie theater or something like that? I thought the SLC scene back then was great. Everyone came through. The Speedway was great and so were the fairground shows. I remember blowing all of my paychecks at Raunch back when it was on 4th.I'm really glad I was able to be around back then. Great times.
