Hell-O-Ween Update

**UPDATE- Ride will be in Draper. Leave the EQ by 10pm**

I'm sure you've noticed that the trails in Draper are covered in snow as of this morning. And there is potential for more snow tonight.

The Hell-O-Ween ride in Draper is at risk. My thoughts are to move it further south to Orem (Frank, Crank, Dry area). The trails in Orem are dry and very fun.

What are your thoughts?

At what point is it too cold to night ride? I'm still in but don't want to be the only one.

Leave a comment with your thoughts and by tomorrow we will have a final decision on where to have it.

i say wait and see. i'm pro corner canyon. and with the new additions, there's plenty to ride there without getting much altitude, including the lower stuff, bst along mike weir, down to pool, golf course, etc.

not that i wouldn't go south. i'd go south.

just post a final plan friday.

Orem only if Draper is not dry. We could make a nice course/ride out of the many options there.

I will be there dressed for the cold.

Now if is was going to be below 25F I may reconsider relocating inside to play the wii and have a competition that way. Isn't there a new Fatcyclist wii game coming out?

i'm in regardless of the location, as long as it isn't cold AND raining. The forecast looks cold, but not un ridable.

I'm okay with the colder temps. We did a night ride last year in colder temps (snow on the trail) and it was fine. It felt warm actually.

Orem is dry. But I agree, let's watch and see what the Draper trails look like before we move it to Orem.

I believe I'll be in a full polyester suit, so really for me, the colder the better.

It would have to get pretty bad for me not to come, and I'm OK holding out for Corner Canyon, but the Provo Canyon trails would be good too.

In my experience the lower Corner Canyon trails don't get so muddy you can't ride (because the soil is sandy). But above some line the soil changes and the mud can be bad. I'd say Clarks, Jamies, Jacobs, upper Ghost and the upper dirt road are out due to mud. Could we go up Ghost south and come down Ghost north? BST along Mike Weir is mostly good, but has a few spots that get muddy. Spring, Oak/Mapple Hollow should be fine. Still lots to ride in Corner Canyon.

In general the trails at Provo Canyon don't get so muddy. But if it gets enough water the road past the last climb can be goopy mud. If the rain/snow hasn't hit that area too bad it should be OK to ride.

If it gets real cold the mud will be frozen. Then again watching ski videos at someone's house starts sounding attractive.

My costume involves a lot of Fur. So for me cold is good. My vote is to make the call on Friday. But I will go south if we need to.

Not settled on the costume yet, but in general I don't like riding if it's below 35 degrees. The riding isn't bad, the warming up after is the problem. Maybe I'll dress as an eskimo.

BST was fine on Saturday even though Brock's and upper road were a gloppy mess. We should be able to find something to ride. Assuming I show up.

We could ride Saturday afternoon as it supposed to warm up to around 50 degrees. The glow in the dark costumes won't work as well however.

I rode the Provo trails today and they are dry as a bone. If CC is wet, which I am guessing it will be, I am in for a South ride (suffer fest). I'll be there either way.

Any remaining mud will probably be frozen by 10, so I think we'll be good. What's the worst that can happen? We show up, make fools of ourselves for 10 minutes and hit Village Inn. Sounds like a good time to me.

Dave's report sounds good - dry trails are nice. Maybe it's time to mix it up this year and change the venue to Provo Canyon.

I'm with TP on this, who says it HAS to be a night ride? After all, Halloween is on Sat right?

Let's do an afternoon ride on Sat which lets the trails have more time to dry and allows me to wear my G-string costume without frost bite of my nether regions.

My vote is for corner canyon. A few inches of snow makes for fun riding...a bit slower, but exciting. And it sounds like with the exception of tibikers costume, most of us will be too worried about catching big fluffy costumes on tight cornered trees to go too fast down Jamie's trail anyway.

i will be resting up Friday evening, in order to avenge what Rick did to me last Saturday, or not.

Have fun.

My fork is blown and my brakes are out, yeah, that's my excuse, yeah.

Corner Canyon or bust!

Right now, it looks like staying in Draper and riding some of the lower trails might be the way to go. It's still going to be a night ride (sorry Tony and Jamie). If you want to dress in costume and ride during the day, come join Bob and me at the CX race. (Bob- take it easy on me)

You have a glow in the dark costume don't you Rick?

Rick Sunderlage said...

TP- Like I'm going to give it away....you'll need to show up and see for yourself.

I'm in. Corner Canyon or Orem either would be great.

KanyonKris said...

Did I see fresh snow in CC this morning?

I've got a prize for best costume or best crash or some other best.

I'll be there around 9:45 in the real costume, then add layers for the ride at 10. Rick, sorry if this announcement reduces attendance or increases tardiness.

***PLEASE SEE UPDATE (Again). This ride is being moved to Orem due to too much slop in Draper*****

rick,
This is your old pal from Bloomfield hills MI. I've wondered what ever happened to you and your sad little brother. It would be great to talk to sometime. James Olsen.
