Back To My Roots

I can't fool my body any more. It knows that whenever I try to feed it shot bloks, energy drinks, or gels that I'm about to ask it to do something really hard and the gag reflexes kick in. I've gone back to my roots and pretty much eat two things on long rides:
  • The original PowerBar (peanut butter)
  • King size Salted Nut Roll

At $1.89 a pop, the PowerBar is not ideal. The Nut Roll is always on sale at the price of 2 for $1. Seriously, have you ever seen these things at normal price? Every grocery store or gas station has the same promo...2 for a $1.

Plain water to wash it down or some of Brad's CarboRocket. It's pretty much the only energy drink I can stomach.

Soup or V8 work well but only if you have someone crewing for you. Otherwise, too hard to pack around.

Some day my body will reject the Nut Roll too and THAT will be a very say day.

Is the nut roll for nutrition or just so you can have ammuntion to spit at the rider in front of you to move out of the way?

That'll be a sad day indeed when you need pre-chewed food.

Remember when we would rig the vending machine in Junior High so that as soon as someone put in enough money, the Salted Nut Roll would automatically come out?

People would get pretty angry.

Is this why you eat them - to get angry before the climb?

Interestingly enough, the salted nut bar is my 'secret' weapon for IMZ this weekend - I'll be carrying one and have one in each of my special needs bags.

dug & KK- pre-chewed food. Great idea.

Rob- I told that story to my kids earlier this week as a good night story. They loved it.

Fish- If it's good enough for you (food guru), well then, Its good enough for me.

Tired cookie dough?

cellarrat- how long would cookie dough last in 90 degree heat for several hours?

Not saying it doesn't sound good but worried about the eggs going bad.

I am a nut roll convert thanks to you and BK.

I also read "chewing" the first time I read it. Reminds me of an old SNL sketch where they had people at a restaurant that would chew the food for you, talk about full service restaurant.

Oh, and do I feel stupid for always telling you "Hey Rick, I found the Salted Nutrolls on sale for 2 for a dollar!!" I guess it showed that I was a newbie.

Thanks for not saying " Hey dumb arse, they're ALWAYS on sale 2 for a dollar"
